We’re going to talk you through how to create a custom layout and save it inside Chamsys MagicQ on a computer and using a console.
Quick Answer: Select a window, set the window position and size, and repeat until you have your desired layout. Save it to your preferred layout button using the record button.
How To Create Custom Layouts & Window Sizes with Chamsys MagicQ
We’ll recreate the default layout in a new show file and save it to the layout 1 button.
Time needed: 2 minutes.
On PC/Mac
- Select the group window
Hit the GRP button. - Adjust the window size
Open the view menu > Top Left. - Repeat steps 1 & 2 for additional windows
Position (POS) > View > Top Right.
Color (COL) > View > Bottom Left.
Bean (BEAM) > View > Bottom Right. - Save the layout to LAY1
Record (REC) > Layout 1 (LAY1) > Yes.
On a Console
If you’re working on a physical console, you won’t have a view menu; instead, press: Alt + EXEC to cycle through the window sizes.
When working with a console and an external monitor, first press Alt + MEDIA to send the window to your external monitor. Then, follow the Alt + EXEC process outlined above to cycle through the window sizes.
Layouts 4, 5, & 6
The console has 3 layout buttons, so some people don’t realize that there are also layouts 4, 5, and 6. You can access these using the shift button.
- Layout 4: SHIFT > LAY1
- Layout 5: SHIFT > LAY2
- Layout 6: SHIFT > LAY3
