Let’s take an in-depth look at the Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 wireless, battery-operated LED light fixture.

Quick Answer: The Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 is a popular, robust workhorse LED light that offers excellent flexibility with battery-powered, wireless operation. We think they’re pretty great lights.

Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 Overview

Chauvet Freedom Par Quad4

The Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 is a workhorse. It’s about two or three years old now, but it’s still really popular.

Some of the light’s features include:

  • 4 x 5 W Quad color RGBA LEDs
This is the first RGBA light we added to our inventory. We loved the resulting additional color options.
  • 13° Beam & 29° Field Angle
  • Button Operated Kickstand
Simply tilt the fixture, drop the kickstand, and it’ll stay there.

Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 Inputs & outputs

While the Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 lights come into their own when operated wirelessly, they also feature a range of inputs and outputs for wired solutions too.

  • 3 Pin DMX in & out
  • IEC in
  • Edison out

The manual states that you can power link up to 15 Quad 4’s at a time. We regularly daisy chain 18 fixtures at a time when charging them. They take around 6 hours to charge fully.

Menu System

The fixtures feature a typical Chauvet menu system on the back. There is a menu button to select the mode, up and down keys, and an enter button. We think these menus are pretty dummy-proof.

Top tip: If you don’t hit the enter button, the fixture will revert to its previous setting in about 10 seconds.

Battery Indicator

You’ll find a battery level indicator below the menu buttons with lights for 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. However, take these readings with a grain of salt. If you’re pushing multiple colors to make a specific shade, we’ve seen the battery meter drop from 100% to 50% in a matter of minutes.

The battery meter isn’t super accurate when the light is in use; it’s just there to give you a general indication and is most accurate when giving you an initial reading after startup.

Ways To Control The Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4

There are 3 different ways to control the Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4.

  1. The Onboard Controller
Use the menu buttons on the back of the fixture.
  2. DMX
4, 6, and 10 channel DMX modes controlled via DMX cable or wirelessly.
  3. Chauvet IR Remote
The IR sensor is on the front of the fixture and down low. It can be pretty picky and won’t trigger unless the remote is aimed directly at the sensor.

DMX Wireless Setup

Using the Chauvet wireless D-Fi hub, it’s really easy to run your Quad 4’s without having to run DMX cables to your DMX controller. Simply connect the D-Fi hub to your DMX controller and make sure it’s set to the same channel as your light fixture/s.

Using this system, you can control all of the lights at once. Sure, you can go round and change them all manually or with the remote one by one, but it’s much faster and more professional to do it all from one central controller.

Customizing Colors & Battery Saving

Clients often want a custom mix of the RGBA LEDs to get just the right color for their event. Often, many of the color channels will be near max output, reducing battery life to somewhere between 6-8 hours.

We recommend setting up the fixtures at the start of the day, setting the custom color with a DMX controller, and then turning down the master fader. Everything is still turned on, but it will use minimal power until the lights are required later.

Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4 White Light

Our one criticism of the Quad 4 is that it doesn’t produce the best white light. It’s quite hard to get a pure daylight white from these lights in comparison to other fixtures.

Outdoor Events & Theft Prevention

We think that Chauvet Freedom Par Quad 4’s are great little lights; they are robust workhorses that can take a beating. We regularly get them back from one event, charge them up and get them back out again the next day.

It’s worth noting for outdoor events that they are not water-rated, and they often get stolen. Untethered, these small lights are easy for someone to pick up and carry away or conceal.
