When clients are going through the process of selecting a projector for their event, it’s common to hear the questions “What is SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA” and “Which kind should I get”.
The resolution that you eventually select will depend greatly on what you need to do with your projector. Basically, they all offer the same 4:3 aspect ratio, but the higher the resolution, the more crisp your presentation will look.
Below is a breakdown of the most common formats:
- SVGA – Resolution: 800 x 600 – Total Pixels: 480,000
- XGA – Resolution: 1024 x 768 – Total Pixels: 768,000
- SXGA – Resolution: 1280 x 1024 – Total Pixels: 1,311,000
- UXGA – Resolution: 1600 x 1200 – Total PIxels: 1,920,000
It is important to note, that higher projector resolutions aren’t always better. Most of the time the projector resolution will depend greatly on the laptop or computer that is sending the signal to the projector.
